Compare two scenarios

Set a 40-hour week next to a week with overtime, or two hourly rates, and see how much of the extra pay reaches your paycheck. The link keeps both.

How it works

The calculator multiplies your regular hours by your hourly rate, adds overtime hours at your overtime rate, and scales the weekly total to your pay frequency: one week for weekly pay, two for biweekly, and the yearly total divided by 24 or 12 for semimonthly or monthly pay. That is your gross pay per paycheck.

From there it works like the salary calculator. Federal income tax follows the percentage method in IRS Publication 15-T (2026), Federal Income Tax Withholding Methods, using your W-4 entries. Social Security is 6.2% of wages up to $184,500 for the year (SSA; IRS Publication 15 (2026)). Medicare is 1.45% of all wages, plus Additional Medicare Tax of 0.9% on wages over $200,000 (IRS Publication 15 (2026)). State income tax and any state payroll programs follow the state revenue department's 2026 withholding rules, named under the result.

Hours to paycheck in one flow: add up a week of shifts in the time card calculator, and its total weekly hours arrive in the hours field here with your state kept.

Not included: overtime rules that count by the day, shift differentials, tips, bonuses and other supplemental wages, after-tax deductions, employer-paid taxes, and any deduction or credit you claim when you file your return. The overtime field uses the hours you enter; it does not decide which hours count as overtime.

Worked example

Take a worker in Texas earning $22.00 an hour, with 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours in a week, paid weekly, filing single, with no other W-4 entries. Regular pay is 40 × $22.00, which is $880.00. Overtime pay is 5 × $22.00 × the overtime rate of 1.5×, which is $165.00. Gross pay for the week is $1,045.00. Federal withholding under Pub 15-T is $83.48, Social Security is $64.79 and Medicare is $15.15. Texas has no state income tax, so state tax is $0.00. Take-home pay is $881.58 for the week.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my paycheck from hourly pay?

Multiply your hours by your hourly rate, add any overtime at the overtime rate, then subtract federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state tax and pre-tax deductions. The calculator does each step and shows every line.

Is overtime taxed at a higher rate?

No separate rate applies to overtime on a paycheck; it is added to your wages and withheld on with the rest of your pay under IRS Publication 15-T (2026). A larger paycheck can show a larger share withheld because more of it falls into higher brackets of the withholding table.

How is overtime pay calculated?

Under the FLSA, covered non-exempt workers are paid at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek (U.S. Department of Labor). Some states have their own overtime rules, and some employers pay more.

How much is $22 an hour after tax?

It depends on your state, hours, pay frequency and W-4. With 40 hours a week, paid weekly, filing single in a state without income tax, take-home pay is $749.00 a week for tax year 2026.

Can I send hours from my time card to this calculator?

Yes. The time card calculator adds up your shifts and breaks and sends the weekly total here, where it fills the hours field.
